Should Christians Stray Away From Addressing Topical Headline News?
Author : Mark Crossley
As Christians I do not believe that we should stay away from any issue in society whether the news affects us personally or wholly as a nation.
Among many issues surrounding affecting people at the time of writing in April 2000 are the age of consent of homosexuality and the disagreement of Clause 28, racism with the death of Stephen Lawrence and the implementation of the McPherson report, the return of capital punishment, bullying or adoption.
These are just a few high profile issues. Whether this is for better or worse the decision is up to you.
Therefore as followers of Jesus Christ, we should be looking very carefully and seriously as to what the bible states. Sometimes God’s way is not pleasing and is difficult to accept but God’s way is always best in the long term.
This sometimes goes against what is politically or socially acceptable but is not intended to draw a barrier between those who have accepted Christ and those who seek to find Him as Lord and Saviour.
In separate individual columns I will be taking a controversial issue as highlighted above and put a biblical prospective on the issue for that particular month.
James 3 v 12 “Are there those amongst you who are truly wise and understanding?, then they should show it by living right and doing good things with a gentleness that comes from wisdom”.
Today, it take a courageous person to stand up to politicians to have laws that are pleasing to God however some contradict Gods word yet we also have to live in the Laws of the land today and therefore sometimes all we can do is voice our opinions and pray that the Lords work is outworked in the nations of the world.
I pray that if God is calling you to stand up more for the things of his Kingdom you will do it in his strength and his timing and make a difference in all that you do.
