Weight Loss- Slow And Steady Wins The Race

After service last Sunday, a brother in the church commented on two women standing outside smoking, saying, “Can you believe that they have the audacity to smoke after listening to such a powerful message? Weren’t they listening to what the pastor had to say?!”

I wanted to say, I can’t believe that you have the audacity to say what you just said after listening to such a powerful message—but I quickly realized my hypocrisy.

After muttering a quick prayer in my head for wisdom, I shared with him that God gradually changes us, little by little, day by day. I used to smoke and drink and participate in other things I’m not so proud of, but as God works in me, my habits gradually change.

Many of us have an impatient attitude when it comes to our health. Even though it may have taken us many years to gain weight, we often want to lose weight quickly. We want God to instantly change us. Now, don’t get me wrong... God could change us instantly and He does for some people, but I think He knows us well enough to know that most of us wouldn’t handle instant change very well.

The fast track is never the right path. Change comes through renewing our minds daily with the word of God. It’s a process that happens day by day-little by little—step by step—from glory to glory. God ' s goal is Christ ' s fullness in our life. He wants to bring us to new levels in health and faith, but it will take time.

I encourage you to think of one or two small things that you can do to improve your health, and then ask God to gently change you. Partner with the Holy Spirit to bring about the changes in you that you desire. He wants the best for you and will always accommodate these types of faithful prayers.

Beloved, allow God do His work in you. He has promised to see us through until completion.
